This shrub is in the Chinese and Japanese section, near the Park Drive fence.
Native to tropical and subtropical areas in eastern and southern Asia, from the Himalayas east to Japan and Indonesia. This double white cultivar is one of more than 220 described species and 26,00 cultivars. More than 51,000 cultivar names, including synonyms, have been registered or published. Introduced circa 1550.
This specimen was purchased from a Northampton Garden Centre in Wootton, Northampton around 2000. Pot grown and planted in the Arboretum by E Brown in 2013.
