This specimen is to the west of the East Walk.

Distribution:A hybrid between Japanese Alder (Alnus japonica) and the Corsican Alder (Alnus subcordata).
Originated in the Spaeth nurseries of Berlin in 1894 and entered the trade in 1908.
Supplier:Bluebell Arboretum & Nursery, Smisby, Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire.
Growth Habit:Rapid growth with a pyramidal to oval crown, reaching 15 to 20 m.
Bark:Grey-brown and slightly fissured.
Leaf:Elliptical, dark green in summer, emerge purple-tinged, and turn violet-red in autumn.
Cones:Small, cone-like fruits develop from female flowers.
Flowers:Produces abundant yellow-brown catkins in late Winter or early Spring.
Uses:Widely used as a street, avenue, and park tree due to its robust nature.
