This shrub is at the top of the East Walk, on the Burnmill Road fence.

A hybrid raised in the mid 20th century. Exact parentage isn’t known. The name ‘Boskoop Ruby’ indicates it originated from the Boskoop area of the Netherlands. Famous for its nurseries, particularly for woody plants ans perennials.

Cytisus is a genus of flowering shrubs native to open sites (typically scrub and heathland) in Europe, western Asia and North Africa.

Common Broom, Cytisus scoparius, also known as Scotch or Scottish Broom, is native to Britain and Ireland.

‘Boskoop Ruby’ has gained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
