A 1896 cultivar of Philadelphus × lemoinei.

In 1884, Victor Lemoine crossed Philadelphus microphyllus with Philadelphus coronarius and produced a hybrid plant which he named Philadelphus lemoinei. Many cultivars of this hybrid are in cultivation.

Cultivar ‘Avalanche’ is upright, medium-sized, deciduous shrub with dark green foliage and clusters of highly fragrant, pure white, single, saucer-shaped flowers that appear in early summer from June to July.

Pierre Louis Victor Lemoine (1823 – 1911) was a celebrated and prolific flower breeder based in Nancy, France.
