A hybrid of the European mountain ash Sorbus and the North American chokeberry Aronia. Developed by Russian plant breeder Ivan Michurin (1885 – 1935).

Small tree or shrub to 4m high with pinky-white flowers in Spring.

Clusters of large deep red berries in Autumn and beautiful Autumn foliage.

The fruit is eaten by wildlife. Too astringent to eat fresh but can be used cooked, for juice, jam etc. Ripens late August.
