#117 Pyrus ussuriensis CHINESE WILD PEAR aka USSURIAN PEAR

A native of north east China, Korea and the Ussuri region of East Russia.  This specimen was supplied by Hilliers and planted here by Mr Hammond in March 1924. It is one of the earliest trees to bloom but the subsequent round, greeny-yelow fruits are hard and inedable.

The flowers are white with orange stamens, edged with delicate teeth. The bark is tessellated in beautiful regular rectangular plates.
